You have been diagnosed with a skin cancer that on occasions can spread into the lymphatic system.
That is why as part of your examination your lymph nodes are examined by your doctor or Skin Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist at follow-up appointments. The lymph nodes examined depend on the location of your skin cancer e. The aim is to detect any enlargement of the lymph nodes and undertake investigation at an early stage. Some people express a interest in knowing which lymph nodes to examine and how to undertake this procedure between clinic appointments.
This system consists of lymphatic vessels and tissue which drains lymph fluid from the tissues of the body, helping to protect you from infection and disease. Lymph nodes are small oval lumps of lymphatic tissue found at certain parts of the body. These lymph nodes filter out bacteria and disease cells from the lymphatic fluid before it is returned to the blood stream. Lymph nodes can only be felt in the areas shown in the diagram.
Usually lymph nodes are not enlarged and thus not able to be felt, but if you have previously had an infection such as tonsillitis you may have noticed and felt lymph node becoming enlarged, painful and tender. Lymph nodes can also become enlarged due to cancer cells lodging in them.

I had a mammogramme three months ago and that came back clear. I have been googling and feel sick. I have been waiting a week and have another to go. Does a mammogramme take an image of the top of the breast going into the armpit? I am 51 and periods stopped 3 years ago. No history of breast cancer. Annoyingly most the post in this subject in here never have an outcome. I have lost two stone recently in WW so maybe that is why Inhavnt felt it before when rolling deodorant.
Any advice anyone? My lump was small but hard and immobile, which google said was the worst kind to find! So this worried me even more. So I made a doctors appointment thinking they would refer me to the breast clinic and I was dreading the horrible wait!! She said it was nothing to worry about but I was still constantly feeling it and worrying that maybe the doctor got it wrong, but a few week later and I barely feel anything phewwww!!!
The relief knowing it had nearly gone is unreal. Finding a lump is always scary but most of the time they do not mean cancer!! Thanks for answering me. That is really reassuring. What a relief for you. I have been to the breast clinic before because a weird lumpy bit had a mammo and it turned out fine. Feel more nervous this time though. I get much more anxious nowadays. Glad I posted in here as was very hesitant xxx. Are they referring you? Thanks for answering. Yes I have been referred to the breast clinic for Mon 11th Nov.
Doc was going to wait for two weeks but saw I was anxious so we discussed and she said ok lets book it. The clear mammogramme keeps me grounded and the fact it is moveable. I have to just keep repeating that to myself. Yes I can imagine your really were scared. Horrible feeling. Is ur lump hard or soft? It feels kind of rubbery and moves across when pressed.
